Technology Makes Wildlife Prints and Posters Very Affordable

August 28th, 2009

From time immemorial, wild animals have provided inspiration for artists. In Africa, this is typified by the rock art or “bushman paintings” of the ancient San people.

Today, with the ever-expanding world population encroaching each day on the natural habitat of wild animals, more and more species are under threat, with some now critically endangered. Fortunately there are many conservation-minded people around the world who realize the importance of preserving what’s left of our wildlife.

Included in this group is a growing number of artists who are turning their skills to wildlife art, for both environmental and commercial reasons.

From photo-realistic drawings to abstract paintings, there is now an awe-inspiring variety of wildlife art available. The best of this is priced accordingly, but that doesn’t mean all good wildlife art is beyond the budget of ordinary folk.

Thanks to advancing technology and falling production costs, outstanding reproductions in the form of fine art wildlife prints, posters, and photographs are readily available at affordable prices.

Superb wildlife images, captured by the world’s leading photographers, are now digitally printed on archival photographic paper, producing vivid, pure colors and exceptional detail.

Always popular among wildlife enthusiasts are elephant prints and posters, particularly the work of those artists and photographers who are skilled in accurately depicting Africa’s largest land mammal.

Like their domestic cousins, Big Cats - tigers, lions, leopards, cheetahs, jaguars - have an enthusiastic following. Fans of these wild felines are fortunate in that their favorite animals are also favored by photographers and artists, thus providing a riveting selection of wild cat fine art prints and posters from which they can choose.

Of course it’s most satisfying to have an original, signed print or photograph, but a first-class reproduction on good quality paper, tastefully matted and framed, will still add a touch of class to any home, den, or office.

Considerations for Effective Workplace Planning

August 28th, 2009
Comments Off

Introduction

In the current economic climate, it’s not just employees who are coming under scrutiny in many organisations, but the effective use of work space as well.

With major advancements in the use and availability of mobile technology, it’s much easier and in some cases much more efficient for both the employer and employee to agree a flexible working arrangement. So as well as the more traditional arrangements for office based personnel, employees are now able to work from home and work from several locations during the working week. Even when in an office environment, hot-desking, touch-down areas or hotelling are all common arrangements being made for the mobile employee.

In providing this flexibility, it’s important that the employer considers how to ensure that the business premises are used to their maximum efficiency. It’s a major challenge for any employer, who will not want to see rows and rows of empty desks day after day.
Effective workplace planning is something that many organisations are now considering. There is much to consider such as minimum space requirements, lighting requirements, fire exit and disabled access considerations , to name but a few. So seeking the advice of a specialist workplace planning contractor could prove a effective investment.

It’s not just about effective planning and utilisation of space. Is mobile working and the creation of touch down areas right for your business? In some organisations, the company culture and the flexibility of employees will mean that such initiatives will work. In other companies it may not. There are many things to consider in planning the workplace environment. No two companies are the same. For one organisation, it may be decided that a stimulating working environment for employees is required, whereas with other organisations effective use of space around the office location will be a priority. Which ever is effective for your organisation, you will want to ensure that the company’s culture and values remain clearly understood by employees.

The work schedule can take several weeks or in the case of bigger projects several months to complete. Either way, from the outset the project needs to demonstrate a clear plan to maximise the use of space, office and layout design, construction timescales and management of contractors whilst on site. The company’s employees will also need to be temporarily relocated whilst the work is undertaken. There are also stringent health and safety regulations concerning the office environment, which must be adhered to in the planning of the project.

Workplace planning contractors will undertake an audit of the business premises to try and understand if such a scheme is likely to be a success. From the contractors point of view, it is a worthwhile exercise, to take time to discuss and agree the options with the client to ensure that once the plan of action is agreed, work will be planned to ensure the minimum disruption to the business.

Contractors undertake office fit outs to improve the working environment of any organisation.

What should be taken into consideration when planning the workplace area?

One of the most critical considerations when undertaking workplace planning is to be absolutely clear about what tasks will be performed in the designated areas. Different layouts, different furniture, the amount of space required, should all be considered depending upon the tasks to be employed in the area. So whether the workplace is to be for permanent staff or flexible workers, consideration needs to be given to the comfort of the working environment, to aid productivity.

Permanent workers will spend many hours at their desk so it is important that consideration is given to individual work areas. The correct provision of the appropriate office furniture and equipment all aid productivity and efficiency levels. Each employee will require their own personal space around their work station. No one likes to be cramped in and there are many variations of desk design, from single to multi desk designs to ensure enough space for each employee.

Comfort at the work station is a key priority to ensure that health problems are avoided through being in the seated position for long periods of time, so a comfortable chair is essential. Lighting is also a key consideration. A more pleasant working environment is created where the office is well lit , but consideration will also need to be given to avoid glare on computer screens. Telephone communication also needs to be well positioned on the desk. Equally, for the mobile worker, ease of connecting up a laptop and mobile phone will be essential.

It is important to take into account all of these issues to, as far as possible prevent distractions from other areas of the office which could interfere with work. However, employers need to get the balance right, as it is just as important to maintain good communication and working relationships within the office. Ensure that every employee has sufficient space to effectively and efficiently undertake their tasks, without being distracted by other colleagues close by. Therefore, in some cases, the provision of a conference room to enable one-to-one or group discussions to be held, may be another effective element of the office design.

In my opinion, the most effective way in which to ensure that employees buy-in to what the employer is trying to achieve is to consult with the employees. Through consultation, the employees can give their views on what type of workstation will be best suited to performing the tasks.

For example if the environment is to be used by a sales person, where regular communication with clients is required, then a slightly more secluded working environment may be preferred to avoid background noise, particularly if discussing detailed proposals or contracts. A sales person is one type of employee who will have flexible working requirements, where a small amount of their working week will be spent in the office, whilst the rest of their time will be spent out on the road visiting potential and existing clients.

If the environment is in a finance department or call centre, then the use of system desking or multi seated work stations may be a more appropriate solution, where a number of employees can be seated in a work area together..

Health and Safety in the office

Whatever the office conditions, the employees should be allowed a degree of flexibility to set up their work station to suit their own needs. As long as the employer has provided and considered the requirements of the working environment to allow employees to undertake their work effectively, employees will want to add a personal touch to their own work area. As long as employees do not place their own health and safety or that of others at risk, then there is nothing wrong with the employer allowing some flexibility with this.
Guidelines for use of equipment at the workstation

Taking time to ensure the comfort of employees at the workstation can eliminate health and safety problems in the future. Every one enjoys working near a window and if this is possible, the reflection from windows onto a computer screen can make reading of the screen difficult. Therefore, window blinds or shades need will need to be supplied to enable employees to control lighting conditions.

In situations, where the workstation is to be used for longer periods of time, guidelines recommend that the use of computers may require an anti-glare filter to be placed across the screen to reduce problems with reflection. A computer monitor is recommended to be at least 25cm from eye level.

It is also necessary to ensure that enough electrical points are available, for additional communications equipment such as mobile phone chargers and laptops.

Employees may also require printers or scanners to be located on their workstation.
The correct seating is critical of any workstation design. Perhaps the most important feature of the workstation is the provision of the correct type of office chair. Many hours will be spent seated at the workstation, so the better the quality of office furniture, the less likelihood there will be of receiving complaints from employees about discomfort in the back, shoulder or neck area of the body. The chairs comfort and design can impact upon how effective or productive the employee will be. So it is good practice to test some desk chairs for comfort before purchasing too many.

Good morale amongst employees is positive for your business and a comfortable working environment will help the cause. I was recently involved in a project to set up a new call centre to house eighty call centre agents. Following much discussion with the office design contractor and consultation with around twenty existing agents, plans for the new look office were formulated before the contractor went away to draw up the plans. The existing agents felt that team working was important and therefore it was agreed that the most effective office layout would be for the call centre agents to be located in teams of six around a circular desk system.

Once the plans were finalized, over a three month period the office layout was developed. Taking time to involve the existing agents has proved very effective indeed, with all call centre disciplines showing good signs of improvement. Another major plus point is that in a call centre, staff turnover can be high, but any new starter is quickly integrated into a ‘team table’ and through training, conversation and listening to team colleagues, quickly adapts to the requirements and targets of that team.

Fire Exit Considerations

No matter what type of business you operate, employers must comply with regulations around safety at work, and this includes what to do in the event of a fire.In today’s health and safety led environment whether it is at home or in the office, the installation of fire alarms is common place.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, was introduced to provide advice for businesses on what reasonable steps should be taken to reduce the risk from fire, to occupants of the building . More importantly the Order contains advice to business owners to ensure that a safe escape plan is in place should fire occur.

Generally speaking, ensuring fire safety within premises is a common sense approach. It is important that in any workplace planning programme, that time is taken to identify for example, where the nearest exit routes are for employees to safely leave the building and where employees should congregate upon evacuation of the premises.

In some premises of course, hazardous materials may be in use within the building and therefore it is wise to seek further advice from fire safety advisors who can advise on how to take specific precautions. Equally, office buildings on several levels will also require advice from fire safety experts to ensure safe exit routes are identified. Many businesses now appoint fire marshals whose responsibility it is, to make sure that every one within the building is aware about what they should do in the event of a fire.

In any work environment , escape routes should be safely and immediately accessible at all times and suitable for the number of people likely to use them. They should not be obstructed in any way and accessible for emergency services.

Guidelines do recommend that at least two fire exits should be available if a room is to be occupied by more than 60 people. The guidelines also extend to the number of flights of stairs and passages of corridors, so your workplace planning considerations will need to comply with the regulations.

Disabled Access

There are many considerations for employers to be mindful of when planning to accommodate disabled people within offices and premises. Under the Disability Discrimination Act every business is required to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to the working environment to ensure that people with disabilities are not discriminated against.

These include making adjustments to the workplace to ensure ease of access for the disabled and providing suitable modified office furniture to provide the same level of office comfort as able bodied employees.

Conclusion

It can be a cost effective solution to engage with a workplace planning specialist to review the layout of your current workenvironment. There are many rules and regulations to comply with, so taking time to consider the implications of exactly what is required is imperative. Do not under estimate the amount of issues to consider in making your workplace a pleasant working environment.

Unfortunately we live in a society where employees are quick to point the finger of blame at their employer for failing to provide the correct workstation or office furniture. So the contractor and client should take time to undertake a site survey, establish what is required from both the employer’s point of view and that of the employee to ensure that the end result meets both the needs of the employer and the employee. Productivity and morale will be greatly improved in a pleasant working environment.

Top Industry CD Mastering for Bands

August 28th, 2009
Comments Off

Mastering engineers have thousands of recording and mixing techniques to make top notch CD’s and Albums. CD Mastering is one of the best kept secrets of top producers today. As most everything is recorded in the digital realm, top mastering houses will do something called analog mastering. What happens is the digital version is converted into an analog version so it can be mastered through original analog processors, though in many instances it is also recorded to an analog two-track system to acheive the warmth that analog tape gives to the recording. It also takes the harshness away from all digital recordings, and can round out the low end giving the bass frequencies that nice analog sound.

Though CD mastering often does cost a little more than basic digital mastering, since it takes additional time and there are the costs for the analog tape, but for serious projects, it can be the final step in achieving the best quality for the album. Since digital recordings can feel ”cold” to a lot of listeners because no matter how loud the signal gets, digital gives you purely digital reproduction. Analog tape, on the other hand, softens as the volume increases in level, so peaks are rounded rather than clipped, which turns into a warm, rich sound as the harmonic series is balanced out. To the audience, this is more pleasing. In addition, an increased input signal will create a more exaggerated difference. Since the top ranges saturate first, this means that as the signal goes up, the highs naturally smooth out, creating a less harsh, and a nicer recording. This is the magic of layback mastering.

There are various mastering studios around the country that have the tools to do analog mastering, however, it also requires you have a mastering engineer with the background to get optimal results possible with the studio gear. I’ve tried out a few studios and one of the most impressive is www.stevethomasmastering.com. He is a top analog CD mastering engineer, yet he also has done thousands of albums as a recording engineer as well. In addition, his results is comparable to some of the most pricey mastering studios in the country. If you already have someone you’re working with there’s nothing wrong with that. But, I would certainly to look him up.

Backlinks Are The Key to Traffic

August 28th, 2009

Creating an awesome website is only part of having an Internet presence. If no-one can get to your site when searching then you may as well not spend any time creating your website.

One of the most important things that you can do to have an effective web site is have other web sites link to it. Usually, there are 2 types of backlinks, One-way and Reciprocal. Both are simple and effective ways to build traffic but one is much more powerful than the other - One-Way links.

Reciprocal links are when you link to a site and that web site also links back to your website. This was a common type of linking a couple years ago and is still commonly used. Often times site owners get great traffic by using in a link exchange service or system built just for reciprocal links. A link exchange is a group of people that exchange links with one another.

One-way links are simply a link to your website from another website without the exchange. In some cases you may agree to exchange links to different web sites which is called an n-way link exchange. This type of linking is considered by most experts to be more valuable than reciprocal links. Google definitely favors this type of linking over reciprocal linking. But, it can be very difficult to get a one-way backlink. There are three chief strategies for getting one-way links: submit your web site to directories, give away something significant that includes your link, pay for a link on someone else’s high ranking site.

1. Creating inbound links by submitting your web site to directories or directory submissions is usually free unless you choose to upgrade. Directories are special websites that list other websites that viewers might be interested in and are usually hand edited so they have additional authoritative weight in the search engine formulas. There are software packages that can help with the boring procedure of filling out directory web forms. One of the least expensive is Directory Site Submitter.

Directory Site Submitter will allow you to create and manage multiple projects with multiple web sites per project and then help you submit to over 400 free directories. The links from these sites will be helpful for SEO reasons more than actual traffic.

2. Another solution is to give away something valuable that includes your link. Articles are very popular because so many site owners need web content. They are cheap to write and are effective at drawing one-way links to your site.

3. Avoid purchasing links on websites for SEO purposes. It can cost up to $100 a month or more to put your link on a high ranked site and it still might not be counted in the search engine algorithm. Google has repeatedly said that buying direct links will not be of benefit for SEO. But, you may still use this technique to drive traffic from a high traffic site to your web site.

The truth of the matter is that if you are working to build long term income, it is going to take a while before your web site becomes profitable. A long term strategy for a site might take six months or even a year for it to start creating income. It is also important to start building back links at once. Choose your links cautiously. Make sure that you are not getting links from low level web sites, scraper web sites or links from bad neighborhoods.

Keep in mind, in today’s competitive Internet environment, if you would like a successful web site then you will have to do at least as much or more SEO than the web sites on the first page of search engine results.

The Missing Ingredient To My Workout Regime

August 27th, 2009

I’m always looking for ways to maximize my workout. I’ve discovered what works for me time wise isn’t the most efficient body-wise. A mid afternoon workout is my best scheduled time but it is in the morning that my body co-operates the best.

I’ve analyzed my routine and found that short bursts of aerobic exercise between weights gives me maximum benefits as well as breaking up the “sameness” of it all.

The biggest obstacle that I have been working on is keeping my energy level up throughout the entire workout. After all, what is a workout if it’s not working out?

I’ve always had a healthy and hearty breakfast and followed fitness advice to drink plenty of fluids (16 – 20 oz) a couple of hours before my workout. However, I found that 30 minutes into the workout my energy level went way down. It wasn’t just tiredness either.
I even experimented with a little snack of fruit about 30 minutes before to keep my blood sugar levels up. This helped a little.

What has really made the difference is drinking a juice made from a green fruit called TAHITIAN NONI® Juice. I’ve read that marathon runners, surfing champions and professional athletes drink it for energy and for after competition recovery. There must be something to it.

I discovered it really does work! I followed the directions on the bottle, drinking 1 oz of TAHITIAN NONI® Juice first thing in the morning. But I found that if I drink another 1 oz about an hour before my workout it made a significant difference. If I workout every day of the week I will drink 2 oz in the morning on the heavier workout day and then 1 oz the next day (my lighter workout day). The 2 oz does give me a quicker recovery time. My muscles aren’t as sore and I don’t feel as spent.

All in all, I’m satisfied. Discovering the right time to workout (when possible), the best workout routine for me, the right type and amount of food to eat and drinking TAHITIAN NONI® Juice for energy and recovery has pushed me forward in results. I’m starting to reach the goals I once only dreamed about.

Tips for hockey coaches

August 27th, 2009
Comments Off

Being a hockey coach has quite a few challenges.  Here are a few tips that can make it easier.  First of all try to deal mostly with the kids.  The parents are ussually the ones that make it the most difficult so be up front and honest with your kids and let them know that you will be honest with them.  If they have questions, they can come see you, but please leave their parents out of it.

Ice hockey drills can get repetitive for players if not enough variety is incorporated into practices.  There are some great websites that post new drills all the time.  It is also a great idea to keep a log of all the drills you have ever done, you will be suprised at how many you do over the years.  Talk to other coaches too to find out what types of drills they do and see if they can offer up any variations.

Travelling with the team can be quite a headache, so organization is key!  Know where the ice arenas are before even getting in the team van.  It is a good idea to find the maps of ice arenas online and print them out.  As a player there is nothing worse than arriving late and being rushed to get out on the ice.  Ice arena maps can be found online very easily.

One last tip is to keep your attitude consistent.  Players will absorb the attitude of their coach. If they always know what to expect then your team will tend to be more consistent.

Long Term Effects of Adderall in ADHD Patients

August 26th, 2009
Comments Off

Adderall is one of the most common medications used for treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It was originally manufactured for diet control and weight loss some twenty years ago. It was not until 1996 that this drug was approved by the FDA for unrestricted use for addressing or treating the problem on ADHD. Since then, Adderall had become one of the favorites of doctors among medications used in treating ADHD. The lack of adverse long term effects of Adderall made it one of the best ADHD drugs in the market. However, like any other medications, Adderall side effects were also observed in patients, and some are very worrying.

Some of the many common side effects of Adderall on patients are the following: sleep problems, restlessness, stomach pain or upset stomach, dry mouth, nausea, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, headache, vomiting, unpleasant taste in the mouth, and weight loss. Often the patient will be able to tolerate these side effects, as they are considered the more minor potential side effects of the drug. However, on some patients, the side effects of Adderall can be severe.

Much more severe side effects of Adderall include but are not limited to: blurred vision, tightness of the chest, suppression of growth in children and teenagers, seizures, fever, tingling in the arms or legs or numbness, irregular heartbeat, severe dizziness, severe allergic reactions which can include difficulty breathing, itching, rash, hives, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or tongue, chest pain, depression, one-sided weakness, severe stomach pain, severe loss of weight, frequent and painful urination, fainting, vomiting, changes in speech and vision, uncontrolled muscle movement, mood changes, severe headache, changes in libido and impotence in adult patients, and addiction.

It is important to seek medical attention right away if any of the symptoms is felt. Like any other ADHD medications, not all patients who are taking Adderall experience any side effects while taking the drug. There are patients who tolerate this medication very well.

It is always important to follow the doctor’s advice on the right dosage and time of taking the drug when taking any kind of medication for ADHD. Doing so can help reduce the adverse effects of Adderall. Parents should also keep close monitoring of their child’s behavior while their child is under this medication. This will help them determine if there is any change in the child’s behavior upon intake of the drug.

Because of the many side effects of drugs for ADHD, many alternative treatments have been used in lieu of these drugs. Clinical studies have shown that ADHD patients respond well to alternative treatments after prolonged usage. Some of the known alternative treatments for ADHD are homeopathic remedies, herbal remedies, counseling, biofeedback, auditory stimulation, and therapy. Before taking any of these alternative treatments, though, you still need to consult the doctor. The doctor is the best person who can pinpoint the right treatment for your child.

Jennifer Kaplan has always been enthusiastic in finding information about the various ways to treat Attention Deficit Disorder. Her latest fact finding mission has been on Adderall side effects and indeed the general long term effects of Adderall, as well as some very real alternatives for some patients who do respond to less conventional ADHD treatment regimes.

Fixing Yellow Teeth With A Little Help From Oral B And Crest

August 26th, 2009
Comments Off

When you are unfortunate and have yellow teeth it can be very worrying as it is oftentimes thought of as a indicator of bad teeth.  There are a number of ways to assist in better yellow teeth only before you select some it is a great idea to read wherefore you have bad teeth.

Mortals have bad yellow teeth because of the dentine beneath the enamel of your teeth.  If you experience dispersed tooth enamel on your teeth then the dentine will appear through and give the appearance of bad teeth.  This combined with intrinsic and extrinsic marks on teeth will give a dull yellow and sullied look.

Normal brushing of the teeth is recommended but if you want to get more of an affect on your teeth then it is worthwhile spending out on an Oral b electric toothbrush.  All Oral b electric toothbrushes clean your teeth and gums more effectively than a normal toothbrush and the range of assorted Oral b electric toothbrush heads means they can clean even the deepest regions of your teeth.

If I had to recommend a household tooth whitening product then it would definatly have to be Crest whitening strips.  The reason for this is because Crest white strips are so ready to use.  You basicly bond the Crest white strip to the top and bottom of the teeth and leave them in for thirty minutes, two times a day. After frequent use of Crest whitestrips there is a noted difference in the white of the teeth and frequent utilisation will present better and farther long-term effects.
