Go Video Conferencing!

March 5th, 2009

Visual communications is a must have in any transformational e-Governance strategy said Krishna P V, Marketing Manager, of Tandberg India.

If there was a one vendor pitch that garnered the most attention and curiosity from attendees, it was Tandberg’s presentation on the use of video conferencing in the government sector.

Krishna P V, Marketing Manager, Tandberg India, presented a compelling case by talking about the importance of visual communications and how it can play a transformational role in e-Governance initiatives.

“Video brings people together for meetings without them having to be physically present at the same location. This not only improves productivity and saves travel time and related costs but also allows more frequent face-to-face contact with colleagues, partners, suppliers, and customers,” he said.  The current economic depression has prompted many governement offices to consider video conferencing as a viable alternative to the established face-to-face meetings of the past.

In his presentation, Krishna did not just talk about the various Tandberg video conferencing solutions, but he gave attendees a live demo of the Telepresence solution by connecting to two different sites i.e. Delhi and Pune from the hotel, over not so strong Internet connections. In additon to being able to communicate without much disrutpion or latency, one of the Tandberg employees was even able to stream a PowerPoint presenation during the meeting.

The delegates listened intently to his pitch and watched the demo with a lot of curiosity. Some of them even participated in the conference and asked questions related to the solution. Most of their queries revolved around the number of sites that can connect in a single session and if there was going to be any latency as more participants logged into the session.

In the midst of all this, Krishna managed to speak about the necessity and the specific role of visual communications in any transformational e-Governance strategy. According to him, there exists untapped potential for visual communications as an effective delivery medium for government agencies as well as the corporate sector and that they will continue to push the agenda forward in the times ahead.
